Individual assessment
Who may consider Meningitis ACWY vaccination
- Hajj and Umrah pilgrims (mandatory, with a certificate required for the visa)
- Travellers to the African meningitis belt, particularly during the dry season
- Students and gap-year travellers heading to university or crowded accommodation abroad
Suitability is assessed during consultation. Tell the pharmacist about allergies, pregnancy, health conditions, medicines and previous vaccinations.

One dose, with the certificate valid from 10 days after vaccination for at least 3 years.

- Soreness at the injection site
- Mild headache or tiredness

Yes, Saudi Arabia requires proof of Meningitis ACWY vaccination as an entry requirement for pilgrims, given at least 10 days before arrival. We provide the certificate needed.
Protection is generally considered effective for around 3–5 years, after which a further dose may be recommended if you're travelling again.
